Hello!!! I have been absent for about 4 weeks. Life got in the way and I have been so busy that I haven’t had time to sit down at the computer and type up a new post. We have been canning food like crazy. We finished our first 6 weeks of school, then took a week off to finish getting our garden food canned (also did some cleaning and organizing that got neglected because of school) and then we jumped back into school at week 7. We will start week 8 today so I thought I would do a quick update of weeks 5 and 6 for you. I also have several more posts planned, hopefully I can sit down and get them all typed up and then be able to post at least once a week.
Week 5 –
During week 5 of MFW Creation to the Greeks, we continued our study of ancient Egypt. We learned a little about mummies, but our main focus was on pyramids. The kids enjoyed making some step pyramids out of sugar cubes.
We also wrapped up some stuffed animals to make mummies. A couple of the kids got wrapped up too 🙂
We started our celebration of Rosh Hashanah this week also. The kids made shofars to blow every morning, and then we had some friends lend us their real shofar. None of us can get it to make a noise, but it was fun to try and the kids enjoyed seeing what a real one looks like. Our Rosh Hashanah celebration didn’t get the feast it was supposed to, and we didn’t get to celebrate Yom Kippur because I got sick during week 6. It was enough to just get school done and keep the house in order that I didn’t try to overdue myself and make a fancy dinner for the feasts. The kids were bummed but I hope we can do another Sabbath feast in the near future.
Week 6 –
During week 6, we continued learning about pyramids. We also took a field trip to the lake while the weather was still warm and we had a field trip come to us. My husbands grandma has been to Egypt a couple times and has several things that she brought over to show us. We invited friends, who are also using MFW CTG, to come enjoy them with us. Everyone had fun and they even got to make a cartouche!
We are still loving MFW!! Can’t wait to share more with you!
